Loke Yew Public Housing is a low cost, public housing residential area that nestles at the edge of prominence commercial district (Kenanga Wholesale City & the upcoming BBCC). The complex is also strategically located with important public transport station is within walking distance. The desirable location and the dilapidated state of the complex make it unsurprising for the housing to be out under the area to be redeveloped in the 2040 DBKL's Structure Plan.
The outdated design of the complex becomes an inconvenience to the residents who are from the lower-income group. The multiple issues such as a run-down building condition, insufficient living space, lack of parking spaces and proper community common space have a negative impact on the residents quality of life. The redevelopment of the site is less attractive to the developers and investors as public housing development offer a low return of investment.
The project will explore the option of redesigning the complex without displacement, in both sense of culture and original resident. By using flexibility and function-by-choice as the main design generator, the project will try to alleviate the social and private lifestyle of the Loke Yew Public Housing's residents.

Lack of perspective drawing

Agreed on the usage of space may change in the future, but as we are in the situation of fighting off the Covid19 pandemic, the idea of sharing spaces is not encouraged
As the main idea of the project is the flexibility of space function, it is possible for the current design spaces to evolve and change to coop with the generation change
The presentation board is upgraded to add the perspective drawings as well as technical drawing
